Modico

Last year after a landslide victory, we crowned Modico champions of our battle of the bands.... We heard on the grapevine rumours of new band members and a full length album ready to hit our ears, so we wanted to know more!
We put  Pathgirl on the case and she caught up with them mid tour to find out who, what and why... And of course gaze adoringly into their eyes!

Well guys, it is just over a year since you were crowned Battle champs... How did it feel to win our title?

Cole - We were surprised we won, we usually don't have a lot of success with online contests. We've been in the finals, semi-finals, and quarter-finals of 5 or 6 contests online and we always seem to fall just short. So were definitely surprised and excited that we won last year.

How did you spend your prizemoney, dancing girls and chocolate body paint? :)

Thomas - We spent almost all of the money recording our new record. I know that's a boring answer, but it's the truth. We probably wouldn't have been able to record without winning, so we were very thankful and appreciative to all those who helped make it happen. We had to pay for the rest of our record by selling a lot of our possessions (CDs, DVDs, etc.)

And what delights has the last year had in store for you all? Your fellow Pathians want details!

John - The last year hasn't been an interesting one for Modico. We ended up having to replace our drummer not too long after we won, but we're pleased with how smoothly Dillon has transitioned with us. We recorded the full length, Axe At My Feet, and we're really excited about getting that out.
We're in the process of finding a home for it so that it can be available to as many people as
possible...so if anyone can get us a sweet hook up let us know ;)
We've been living together in our house in Norman for a year now and that's helped out with practice and bonding, even though we still don't practice nearly enough. We've also started trying to promote a few causes in the world that we fill deserve our attention. One of our big ones is global access to safe water. There's an organization called
WaterAid, that does a lot to try and help out with this problem. We've been donating money from t-shirt sales to them for the last few shows. We feel like a lot of us have the resources, and our countries have the resources,
to help these people out, but there is a lack of knowledge about the problem for many. Sometimes we just have to step out of our bubble for a while and look at the world around us. We've come to realize we're not just commentators on the world, we're part of it.

Your battle campaign brought some of our favourite members to Path.com such as the awesome Madame P! What would you like to say to her and your other fans here on Path.com?

John - Madame P and all of our other friends/fans are awesome. We owe them all so much more than we could ever give. Every band says they owe it all to the fans, but we seriously wouldn't be where we are now without all of the support. We try to establish personal relationships with as many of our fans as we can. So if you don't feel like you don't know us very well, send us a message, write us a letter, come visit us in Norman, we'd really love to know all of you better.

Finally would you be willing to share your battle plan or at least some hints on how you climbed your way to victory with this years hopefulls? Or are you hoping for a repeat performance of last years success?

Our battle plan was simply trusting our friends and fans to help us out. It sounds so simple, but in the end that's the reason we won. We have thousands of "friends" on the internet and the
overwhelming majority are not going to vote for you no matter how many times you annoy them with bulletins or messages. We try not to overwhelm people with spam and instead just mention what's going on every now and then and explain what it could mean for us. If you go about promotion in a non-nagging, non-spammish way then I believe you'll have more success. We have over 27,000 friends on a popular internet site right now and we've never once sent out a spam message to beg their friendship. We'd love to repeat...but we also think it's important to share sometimes and give someone else a chance.
New T-Shirts would be nice though...
*PG takes off her shirt and hands it to John*
